Achievement Testing
Achievement testing looks at what someone has learned in specific academic subjects such as math, reading, written language, oral expression, and spelling. Achievement tests such as the Wechsler Individual Achievement Test – Second Edition (WIAT-II) is used for this purpose. Frequently, an achievement test is given together with a standard IQ or intelligence test such as the Wechsler Intelligence Scale (WISC-IV for children and adolescents; WAIS-III or WAIS-IV for late adolescents and adults). The IQ test can tell us what someone should be capable of learning whereas the achievment test tells us what the person has actually learned. If there is a major difference bewteen the IQ test and the achievement test, this could point to problems such as learning disabilties, motivational problems, etc. To request this kind of testing in the Chicago area, call (630) 325-5300 x 0 and ask for an intake worker.
