About Dr. John M. McConnell
Dr. McConnell is a licensed psychologist who provides both psychological assessments and psychotherapy. He also has a faculty appointment at Wheaton College in the Clinical Psychology doctoral program where he teaches cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy, research, and psychology of older adults. Dr. McConnell is a research expert in forgiveness, and he has multiple professional publications in forgiveness and self-forgiveness. He is an active member of the American Psychological Association. Prior to coming to Heritage Professional Associates, Dr. McConnell completed both an internship and a postdoctoral residency in clinical psychology at Veterans Health Administration (VA) medical centers.
Clinically, Dr. McConnell specializes in integrating psychological assessments and interventions. He can provide assessments for a wide-range of concerns, including anxiety, trauma, depression, serious mental illnesses, ADHD, concussion and traumatic brain injury, memory loss, and dementia. Dr. McConnell is well-versed in evidenced-based practices of psychotherapy for many presenting issues such as anxiety, PTSD/trauma, OCD, panic, depression, anger, coping with chronic pain and illnesses, grief and loss, caregiver support, and marital issues. He also is an expert in assisting individuals, couples, and groups accomplish forgiveness.
